Senior Legal Counsel

Contships Management Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Legal Counsel, qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales, to join its in-house legal team. This is a broad role, covering, amongst other things, insurance, ship finance, sale and purchase transactions, and general corporate legal support.

Key Responsibilities

• Advising on, and managing, P&I, FD&D and H&M claims
• Liaising with P&I Clubs, insurers, brokers, and correspondents on claims handling
• Advising on charterparties, commercial shipping contracts, and dispute resolution
• Assisting with the renewal of insurance policies and negotiation of renewal terms, policy wordings and endorsements
• Reviewing, structuring and negotiating vessel financing documentation, including loan agreements and security documents
• Assisting with sale and purchase transactions, including reviewing transaction documentation and managing the legal aspects of vessel acquisitions and disposals
• Providing day-to-day legal support across corporate governance, contract review, and commercial agreements
• Assisting with regulatory and compliance matters relevant to the shipping industry (sanctions, KYC, environmental regulations).

Experience

• Minimum 8–10 years' PQE, with substantial experience in shipping/maritime law, gained either in-house or at a leading maritime law firm
• Demonstrable experience across marine insurance (P&I, FD&D, H&M), ship finance, and S&P transactions
• Prior in-house experience within a ship management,  ship owning or  chartering company is advantageous
